Frequently asked questions
I have loads of different courses on Skillshare including an Introduction to Social Media Marketing masterclass, How to Become a Youtuber, Whatsapp for Business, Digital Marketing 101 and more!
Yes, I love working with brands I use and admire! Thus far I have worked with Wix (big fan!) and Mailblaze (a kickass SA email software). My videos are educational and technology focused so I wouldn't describe myself as an influencer, but do enjoy partnering with brands which would add value to my audience's life and which I personally use. Partnerships range from paid partnerships (i.e. creating a dedicated video) or simply on an affiliate basis (mentions in videos), or both. Either way, I would never endorse something I don't whole heartedly believe in.
I studied a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Photojournalism and German at Rhodes University (2008 - 2010), followed by a Post Graduate Diploma in Marketing from Stellenbosch University (2011). Once I graduated I headed to Cape Town to pursue digital marketing and found myself working for digital agencies big and small, then freelancing, then brand side and now I am pursuing entrepreneurship full time! #YOLO When I realised I loved video creation, I did a short course at City Varsity in Adobe Premier Pro but am otherwise 100% amateur and happy to admit it!
I am lucky enough to call Perth, Western Australia my home! But I have lived all over the world including South Africa, Switzerland and Germany. I lead an outdoorsy lifestyle and you can be sure to find me trail running, boxing or thrifting most weekends.
I found an incredible internship opportunity at a small digital agency and became their very first digital strategist. I later became their head of strategy and led a team of strategists across two offices. I highly recommend interning as a way to get to grips with this fast paced industry as it is ever changing and has a lot of facets, so it's a great way to hone your skills and work out which parts of it you truly enjoy. For me it has always been strategy - I love creating presentations, researching trends, listening, asking questions and solving problems.
I started Do Digital Academy in June of 2018 when I was 28. It used to really bother me that social media and digital marketing courses weren't affordable to people like me who had recently entered the job market. I initially set up my Youtube channel as a way to promote the business but ultimately fell in love with the craft of video making, so it became my primary focus. Now I operate under my own name, Megs Hollis, and focus on Youtube, Skillshare and consulting work for clients.
I do my best to reply to all of my Youtube comments so its easiest to hit me up there! Alternatively you can connect with me on LinkedIn. If its a longer query, feel free to mail hello@megshollis.com
